My Real Life V

by April | Score: 4500

As I ran, I heard something. An explosion, but I ignored it. Weird things are always going on in my city. Once, a vulnerable barbarian was roaming the streets. No one knew what he was up to, and few actually cared. As I remembered that event, I had to stop and catch my breath. I looked around, I hadn't even realized where I was going. In my head, I had planned to go to my friend's house, but I was far away from there. Instead, I was standing across the street from the town library. Being the oldest building in town, it was a bit rundown and people rarely went there, making it my favorite place to be. I pulled my hood up as I crossed the street and walked around to the back of the building. Not only was the library the oldest building and almost abandoned, it had dozens of hidden passageways. I had stumbled into them a few years ago when I was hiding in the library to prevent hearing my dad ranting on and on about how my cousin would never get anything done in life after he lost his first job. Now, he's a mature dentist. Not the best one, but still, he made his parents proud. Meanwhile, I was hiding in a library from my own father.
I looked around the field behind the library and found what I was looking for. A trap door that led straight to a room where all the passages connected. After having to hide there for so long, I had made it comfortable for myself. As I went in, I thought about my father. Would he be sitting and crying over his sister becoming deaf? No. He would be complaining about how useless she is now.
I touched my own hearing aid and I sat down next to an old piano that had been left in the old room. I was already a disappointment to him. I was everything he didn't want in a daughter.
