A serious of quickly occurring events

Arnold's head turned towards the door as he heard the knock. It was still early in the day and he wasn't expecting company. He looked down at the wristwatch on his arm to make sure it was as early as he thought it was. As he opened the door, he looked around for a moment and didn't see anyone standing there in his doorway. His curiosity piqued and his paranoia starting to plant thoughts into his head. He began to step back inside and close the door when he looked down and saw the mysterious letter sitting there on his doorstep. The scent of lilac and gooseberries seemed to cling to the letter and fill the inside of Arnold's cabin.

Stepping back inside, took a dull knife from his kitchen table to open the letter, since he lacked a letter opener. There was no signature on the letter, but he know who it was from.  He was one of the only two aromatherapists in the city, and this had come from the other. Arnold and Mitch had been quarreling with each other for a few years now. It was difficult not two, considering how competitive their rather niche market was.

As he read the letter, Arnold wasn't sure if he should be angry or relived to learn that Mitch had won the lottery and would be shutting down their clinic effective immediately. With the prospect of his only business rival out of his way, things were certainly looking up. That's when he heard the sirens in the distance....
