Rainy night at the Lab

It was a dark and stormy night. At least that's what Snoopy would have been typing on his old Olympia typewriter when the weather was as bad as the dreary glance out the window revealed. Not that Lance often had time for window-gazing, what with the piles of laboratory data that he was responsible for analyzing.
   He reached for his "#1 Lab Assistant" coffee mug, even though he knew that the tea in it was now long cold, and bitter. He wondered how Zach had even found such a random and unique "gift", and why Zach thought it appropriate since he knew Lance didn't drink coffee. Damned Zach - HE should be the one collating, sorting, and doing the data entry for the Schedule E test run. How did Lance let him talk him into doing his grunt work on a Saturday night?
    Shrugging his shoulders, as if the answer to that question mattered at this point, Lance tore the wrapper off a package of Lance Cheese Crackers. It wasn't that he liked that particular snack, he just found it ironic that there was a snack food "empire" that bore his name, and he had nothing to show for his labors that would ever last beyond his years. He wondered
