An Earthquake

I crawled under the table. My heart pounded in my ears as my heart thundered in my chest. I couldn't breathe, I had left my inhaler in my bag. It now sat next to the door. I clutched my chest as I felt the ground vibrate. I felt my airway as it contracted and I felt my heart falter as the table above me shook. I watched as my computer across the room fell to the floor and broke. I felt sick in the stomach as the ground only shook more violently. There were far too many objects falling through the house. I waited for the shaking to stop. I wanted the air to flow. I felt my lungs expand and I could taste the wooden dust as it floated through the room. I reached into my pocket. My mother had given me the phone number of a nurse at the hospital. She would be able to help me with my breathing or come help. As I felt around my pocket I didn't feel a slip of paper. It was gone and I was having an asthma attack. The room was filled with soot and dust and I could hear stumbling footsteps. There was a voice that floated through the house. Mike walked through the hall into the room, dust-covered him as a shelf fell at his feet. I couldn't help but attempt to grab him. Of course, I only made it a few steps before I collapsed and clutched my chest in agony. I felt Mike grab my arms as he dragged my back under the table. I was trembling in his arms and I could hardly breathe. Mike cowered underneath the table with me. The earthquake was only getting worse as we hid. I could hardly think through the chaos. I could hardly believe this was happening. In the chaos, I heard the phone ring. I could not answer it, but I could hear the voicemail.
