Everything Stops

I was confused, scared. One minute everything was fine, completely normal, and then the next everything stopped. Every car, every human, every animal just stopped in unison, all but me. 
I turned to my friend beside me to see him frozen as well, his face permanently stuck in a half-smile as he nearly dropped his playing cards.
We had been friends for years now, we were actually on our way to our favorite hang-out spot, I was going to confess having a crush on him. But of course, this weird shit had to happen. 
I was probably saved some heartache, as his father wanted him to get into the family business of being a sailor.
Heh, Lio at sea would be the equivalent of putting a fish on the close line to dry, they'd end up calling him the 'sensitive sailor' no doubt. 
The poor thing would be a mockery popeye. Maybe a little more popping to his eye instead. I recon a fight would breakout in ten seconds flat of him getting on a ship, he's is accident-prone like that.
