My Real Life II

I just stood there until he said, "Young lady, what were you doing? You know you shouldn't be out there! Go get changed this instant and when you come back down, I want you to get started on your homework. Understand?"
I nodded and took my shoes up to my room. I went into the bathroom with a new change of clothes and was out in a flash. I had left my clothes left to dry and since my dad didn't call me down yet, I grabbed my book. I was halfway through and it was just getting good. It was about a reserved fisherman who had fallen in love with the princess. To win her heart, he sent the best fish to the palace everyday with a letter for the princess. Now, he had an idea. He would change the world to get the princess's attention. First, he hid as a statuette in the palace garden and waited and listened for the right moment. I needed to know what happened next. I opened my window to smell and hear the rain pouring before laying on my stomach over my bed. I don't know for how long I read before my dad's voice called me from downstairs.
  "Come here, Layla!" he called.
I groaned and closed the book. Slowly, I trudged downstairs and was met by my overexcited grandmother. I held my breath as she squeezed the life out of me with a hug. When she let me go, I gasped for breath saying, "Hey, Grandma! What brings you here?"
"I have to buy a wristwatch for your grandfather. It's for his birthday," my grandmother told me.
I smiled and nodded. I should've known. My grandmother always gave his husband a wristwatch for his birthday. I had once seen my grandfather's collection of wristwatches. One for every year ever since he met my grandma. There were over 50 last time I checked.
"What were you doing up there?" I father asked with a scolding whisper.
"Avenging someone's death," I answered sarcastically. I would get in trouble, but I could deal with it.
