At Death's Door

by Harmony | Score: 1950

It was dark, cold, and the tension hung in the air, you stood in the forest, waiting. For something. For anything. And that's when you hear it, a cry, a scream and a plead. Quickly you reacted, swift on your feet and lost to the wind. Trees flew by as you raced, you were just a shadow.

You felt it before you heard it, the shatter within your mind as it broke. The wave that followed had hit everything, waves of birds and creatures alike fled as the wind tore through everything. And there you were, before a screaming child, some broken toy held within their tiny hands.

Bruises littered their skin and they shivered at their place on the cold ground, you never liked watching children die. From the look of it this child would die of hyperthermia, long and painful. You could do nothing besides protect their small soul from them. You turned and readied you scythe.
