"The best things in life never come easy," the professor said from his podium in the assembly hall. Rachel looked over at her best friend, Jennifer, who was flirting with a boy a few rows in front of the two young women. "Jen, ew he's such a pig! Didn't you learn anything the last time you went out with him?" Rachel said disgusted at Jennifer's taste in guys.
Rachel looked around the room and saw a few geeks in a group hovering over a deck of playing cards, a few feet behind them was the door. Rachel wondered if she would be noticed if she tried to sneak out of the assembly hall of the university. Just as she started to gather her things and stand up, a familiar voice questioned her asking, "Where do you think you're going? Didn't think you'd be the type to ditch." Ross Barnes already had his arm around her waist pulling her close to him. "Ugh!" Rachel groaned quietly, "Don't even think about it Ross! I'm serious, we are through!"
"Oh c'mon Rach!" pleaded Ross.
"I'd rather go deaf than to hear you 'c'mon Rach' me one more damn time!" Rachel retorted.
Suddenly, the whole room was quiet. Rachel hadn't noticed how loud her and Ross had gotten, even in the professor had stopped his announcement.
