The Worst Thing

by Katie | Score: 3450

Every day I dragged myself out of bed and wished I didn't have to go to work. You see, I work for an engineering company and my boss is quite a stern engineer. It makes it hard to learn from her because if I do anything wrong she bawls me out. The other day when I was in her office I happened to notice a whip hanging on the wall behind her desk. I determined then and there to never be called into her office for something I had done wrong. I knew that if something ever went wrong I would have to answer because my boss seemed to have a grudge against me. I was working one day all by myself as my boss had called in sick; at the end of the day I suddenly realized I had miscalculated something wrong at the beginning of the day so all of my work was incorrect. I was very worried because the next day was an inspection so everything needed to be just right. I was one miserable craftsperson. The next day I went to work early and met my boss checking out the damage. She started yelling at me and finally ended up by telling me to come to her office. I started quaking, sure of what was to come. As I walked in she again started yelling. After several minutes she worked herself up to such a rage she grabbed a spice bottle on her desk and threw it at me. I ducked, and it only seemed to make her madder. She reached up behind her and took down her whip and snapped it at me menacingly. It seemed only twenty seconds when suddenly she started after me. I heard a crack of thunder and tried to hide under her desk. I was certainly more afraid of the storm I could sense building up then my angry boss. Anyway, I suspected that she had a mental or anger issue. I cowered as the thunder boomed and the lightning flashed brilliantly, wishing I was at home with a cozy blanket, a mug of hot cider, and a good book. When my boss finally blew off some steam I crawled out from her desk and snuck away. I picked up my stuff prepatory to going home and decided I would start looking for another job in another location where there weren't many thunderstorms.
