Ghost in the Spa

by Carl Brown | Score: 2350

Holden wrung the old mop out again and stared at it for a moment, suspending it over the dirty yellow bucket with the caution sign. When the remaining drizzle has sufficiently slowed, he slapped the mop onto the tile and scrubbed away.

It was another late night cleaning up at Chloe's Beauty Rest, one of the city's most popular day spas.
He struggled to keep his eyes open as he danced back and forth with the stick, working his way backward out of the small restroom.

He finished and pulled the bucket out into the hallway, turning the light out as he went. The abrupt loss of illumination made the moderately dark area appear more like a subterreanan cavern, and he clenched his eyes a few times to speed up their adjustment.

The hall slowly came into focus, along with the pale figure only a few feet away from him.  Electricity jolted though his whole body for a moment and he nearly jumped out of his work boots.

"Goddamn it, why you gotta be that way?" Holden demanded, a hand involuntarily rising to his chest.

"Sorry, the ghost answered. I really can't help how I appear or not appear to you
