“Yessss!” Mia yelled as the lottery reader announced the number on screen. “Guess what? I won the lottery!” She couldn’t believe her luck. It must’ve been the wishbone she’d won earlier.
“Lucky,” Mia’s friend Holly replied. “You know, I got that wishbone for you… maybe… money?” She said slyly,
“I guess so…” Mia laughed.
Another friend of theirs, Vivian, was also watching the lottery readings with them. She was a judge in the high courts, and very respected and respectful.
“Um, you know, not to spoil the mood or anything, but…” Vivian trailed off. “So, um, I have just gotten information that wars have erupted in many places. Like, a World War III, or something…” She fiddled with her locket nervously.
“Oh, wow,” Mia chewed on her lip. “That… I hope- I hope that doesn’t turn into something worse… like a real world war three…”
Suddenly, the lights went out. Sirens sounded in the darkness. The loud ringing filled the air, and the girls’ fearful, hitched breathing was the only thing breaking the heavy silence.
Holly ruffled around in her bag. She pulled out a map and a lantern. “I always come prepared,” she tried to grin like her usual self-confident self, but her fear could be felt in the room.
