Josiah stole a bangle bracelet belonging to a rich college classmate, Chhaya, as he needed money to pay off the debt his father had left him. However, he was caught by her boyfriend, Kaleb, and arrested.
He was looking at a fifteen year sentence to prison. He was kicked out of college, meaning he couldn't get his political science degree, let alone his law degree. His aunt refused to help him and he was all alone... until he met Chhaya in court.
She was incredibly kind, trying to look for the lightest sentence for him. However, after hearing why he stole the bracelet, she refused to move forward with the case, costing her her relationship as Kaleb believed this was because they were having an affair behind his back.
Chhaya helped pay off Josiah's debts and the two became good friends. Josiah soon met Frances, a shy craftsperson. The two hit it off quickly and were married after a year. However, only a few months after their wedding, Frances was found dead beside a bowl of pudding.
Josiah was devastated and looked to Chhaya for comfort. The two started dating a year later and got married soon after. However, after the wedding, a fisherman noticed Chhaya and informed Josiah she was the one who killed Frances.
Josiah was furious and immediately filed for divorce, disappearing and moving to Africa a few months later.
