I knew it. There was no denying it. I had clearly overheard him say to my uncle one day many years ago while eating breakfast. It was a few days after I had recieved my hearing aids.
"She won't get anything done now!" my father had said.
"Don't be so had on her," my uncle had argued. "You know bad hearing runs in our family."
"So does being successful!" my family cried out. "Everyone one of us has done something important. Except for you, of course. Our sister is an aircraft engineer! My daughter is going to be like you. Doing nonsense for the rest of her life!"
I shuddered. Both from the memory and the cold. Running in the rain had been a bad idea. Now, I was in the cold library, hiding in an even colder room. I searched the room. I could've sworn I'd brought a blanket here once. I didn't find it. But I did find my father's lost key chain. I would hide it somewhere in the house for him to find.
Trembling from the cold, I decided it was best to go back home. Just as I was about to leave, my phone buzzed. I picked it up and saw it was my uncle. He had sent my a message of different emojis. It was our secret spy language in case someone ever went through my phone and saw the spy messages. It took me a while, but I was able to decode his message. It said, "Important data was stolen. Lank was robbed. Want to come with me?"
Wait... "Lank?" I reread the message. Oh! It said "Bank!" The L and B were so similar, I often confused them. I searched for the right emojis and texted, "Obvi! Pick me up?"
"Where you at?" my uncle's secret message said.
"Library," I sent in code. Then, realizing he might go to the new library, I texted, "Old library."
