I fell against the chair behind me. My husband has just read out those fateful words from a single piece of parchment paper. Who knew such few words could change your entire world. A fork clattered to the ground. Shouts were heard from outside. I heard the shouts of a drunk building laborer outside, shouting of injustice. The air inside the room was thick with anticipation. My husband kicked aside the unguarded shoemaker. He locked eyes with me and mouthed, "War is declared."
My daughter ran up to my side and exclaimed, "I will marry into that family and prevent the war from happening! You must not worry about me. It isn't a rash decision. I'm mature enough to not set fire to pasta strainers." My husband nodded at me.
It was the only option of conserving the peace and security of our land. We would send our daughter over to the neighboring kingdom along with our stern yet trusted clerical assistant to make sure things go smoothly. I wiped my eyes with a tissue box.
