My Real Life IV

by April | Score: 3900

I gasped. It was as if all the air around me had turned black. My aunt was one of my least favorite people, sure, but I couldn't believe what I'd heard. I had to be dreaming, right? No, it was real. The expression on my grandmother's face told me it was real. I almost lost myself in my thoughts as I heard a knock on the door.
I quickly went over to open it and saw it was my grandmother's sister. She was an occupational therapist (whatever that was) and a noisy one, too.
"I heard what happened and I came as soon as I could," she explained.
I nodded, half-listening. While my body was in the present, my mind was in the past. I was having a flashback of when I was small and lying on a hospital bed. The doctors had just told my parents my hearing was bad. I would have to wear hearing aids for the rest of my life. My parents were crying, but I just lay there, looking at the doctor type something on his computer.
I shook my head, returning to the present. "I'll be in my room," I said and ran up the stairs.
Once in my room, I locked the door and looked around. I looked for something I could seek comfort in. My bed? No. My desk? No. Finally, I decided to grab my stuffed rhino. Sure, it was old and I was too old to be carrying a stuffed rhino in the streets while it's pouring outside, but that's what I did.
I had jumped out my window and onto the roof, without thinking. Then, from the roof, I grabbed onto a branch and climbed down the tree in our front yard. Now, all I had to do was run to my friend's house. And I did. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I didn't care if I was soaking wet within seconds. All I wanted was freedom. I knew that if I had stayed there another second longer, my dad would've given me a lecture on the ears. Even worse, I wouldn't have been allowed to go anywhere.
