Brianne looked at Jaden with a lost expression on her face. "I—I don't understand," she stammered, her lip quivering. "What did I do wrong?"
Jaden shook his head, tutting. He walked towards Brianne and pulled the muffler from her neck, revealing two lines of crescent moon-shaped marks. "You know what you did," was all Jaden said. "Why do I need to tell you?"
"Because I didn't do anything," Brianne countered. She looked at the plant sitting on the windowsill, and the packet of seeds laying by it languidly.
All of a sudden, the door to Jaden's office slammed open. "Sir!" yelled Jaden's clerk, a slim man named Thomas. "The bank's just been robbed!"
Jaden glowered at Brianne before sighing. "We'll continue this later. I have things I need to do."
Jaden pulled Brianne's muffler back up, hiding the marks on her neck, before he walked out the door with Thomas, shutting it behind him.
Once Brianne arrived at her cramped apartment, she shut the door behind her and sat on the threadbare couch in the room. She pulled out a small bottle of lotion and rubbed it on the dry skin on her wrists and elbows. The only sound that Brianne could hear was the quick ticking of the clock. At least, it was, until...
The letterbox opened and quickly shut afterwards. A letter to the floor through the flap, and Brianne walked over to it. She picked the mysterious-looking letter up and read it.
Brianne's heart began to thump in her chest as she dropped the letter. She quickly put on her skiing jacket and ran out the door, her footsteps tap-tap-tapping on the pavement.
