Our Amusement

Time froze as I stared into the man's eyes, where he could see a combination of reassurance and confidence under a raised eyebrow. I looked back down at his hand which patiently waited for my own.
The sounds of families walking, children laughing, riders screaming, and wheels turning became blurry as I became lost in my mind while thinking about what I was about to agree to.
After taking a deep breath, in and out, I was able to raise my hand and take him into mine. While holding it gently yet firmly, he said to me, "This means war", before getting up to leave.
Once he disappeared into the crowds, I leaned back against the bench as my breathing quickened as my heart began to pound. The reality of the situation was finally setting in as I tried to fidget with whatever I could to calm myself down. The only thing on my person was an eraser I had won at the arcade. As my finger went up and down the eraser to feel the soft and smooth texture, my heart skipped a beat upon hearing the sounds of a siren in the distance.
As the crowds around me began to panic, I started to run toward a nearby exit, not hesitating to push anyone out of the way if necessary.
