Avoiding The Abyss

Marlon Raymond walked swiftly to the edge of the abyss. He did not know what he was going to find once he gazed over the edge. The only thing he knew was some force was compelling him to move forward. Whatever that force was it had more strength than he had will power.
The air surrounding him turned black all around which brought a new fear to his mind. He felt something squish between the open toes of his sandals, it was a tomato.
This quest must end in victory, he thought. As he neared the edge of the abyss, he heard a familiar voice tell him to stop. It was Harry, the stern marketing director, who had volunteered to teach him business. On the other end of the railroad car there was a woman yelling at him telling him that a mysterious letter had arrived for him.
He stepped over a large puddle with a small container of chocolate pudding spilled in it. "Must I always hurt myself with odd objects?" He questioned.
To which Harvey the town drunk sneered and stumbled away into the darkness.
