Two Lovers Under a Meteor

They looked up at the sky. The burning ball in the sky growing bigger by the second.  He cupped his hands around her face and tangled his fingers in her brown hair. He observed her face closely for the last time. She had grime on her lovely face and speckles of dirt. She always loved crafting and engineering things.  "What is it, darling?" she asked him, tear welling in her eyes. "I love you, my dear." He told her firmly and kissed her lips. His lips tasted of honey and hers tasted of cigarette smoke. He opened his eyes and looked into hers. She had one eye closed. "What's wrong?" he asked her gently. "I can't see. It hurts to open my eye. I think it's the falling ash." They both looked at the even brighter ball of fire and the earth started shaking. He was reminded of the time they were reading comics as teens and an earthquake shook them atop each other.  Her father happened to walk in and saw them. He was quite a strict clockmaker and wasn't too nice. He looked at her one last time and so did she. He was wearing the bangle bracelet she had gotten him for their 20th anniversary. "Happy 35th anniversary, mi amor" he said clamping their hands together. "Happy 35th, darling" she said with a shaky voice. They kissed one last time as the
