The Hospital and the Drunk Man

The loud clank of a bottle smacking into the bell sitting on the receptionist's desk clearly echoed across the steril interior of the waiting room. Mulberry Hospital was dim and nearly empty during the late hours of the night, except for the clearly babbling man with liquid drizzled down his shirt, presumably from the bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag he clenched in his hand.
"Do you need any assistance?" an exasperated voice said from just over the man's shoulder. He jerked, glancing back, before returning to his attempts to climb on top of the receptionist's desk. "I'm going to have to ask you to stop and take a seat in the chairs if you need assistance. The nurse will be down shortly," she continued.
"Wha? Whos there, I can't see you," said the man, stumbling into some mockery of an upright position. He swung his bottle around, hitting the vest of the security guard who was talking to him a moment ago.
Calling out for a nurse, the guard relinquished the bottle from the severely drunk man before tossing it in the trash can where it clanged against an empty tin can before echoing in an unpredictable manner. A sort of shattering noise followed as if the bottle remained but something else did not.
Preparing for the man to collapse at any moment, she guided him to one of the plastic chairs that rested along the walls, just as the nurse entered the reception hall.
